Kali Uchis’ music video for her track “After the Storm feat. Tyler the Creator” transports you to the retro, domestic sphere of the 60s. Directed by Nadia Lee Cohen, the video is inspired by her rumination on suburban consumerism and filtered through a bizarre lens. The video begins with Uchis sitting at a table writing a grocery list in a basic white tank. The subsequent scenes show her shopping in a lemon yellow ensemble and getting her hair done by birds in a powder blue jumpsuit, while Tyler is unearthed from the front lawn in a soft pink cardigan and a wig made of shrubbery. Perfectly loud splashes of color and innovative design were just a couple elements that generated buzz around the video, taking home a win from the 2018 D&AD Wood Award for Best Production Design and a nomination for the 2018 AICP Music Video of the Year.
